Operation Bottom Cover provides diapers for military families
ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The U.S. Military has a diaper problem.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) National Auxiliary is trying to solve it.
The VFW Auxiliary has launched Operation Bottom Cover. It is an effort to collect diapers and and other baby needs, and deliver them to military families.
“What we’re finding is that so many of our veterans, when they’re in the military their pay is so low that they can’t afford the essentials for their families,” said Brenda Bryant, President of the VFW National Auxiliary. “So, they have to decide do I buy food for our family or do i buy diapers and the things that they need for their babies.”
Diapers and things like baby wipes are being collected by VFW posts around the country. Donations are also being taken. Collections are then distributed to families based around the world, as well as families being treated at Veterans Administration medical facilities.
“We’re taking them to our National Guards, we’re taking them to our military bases, we’re taking them to our VA hospitals where we have young people coming in,” said Bryant. “When they leave, we send them with diapers to help them out.”
