Man sold car for diaper money after birth of son - then he got the shock of his life almost 40 years later | The US Sun
A MAN who sold his car nearly 40 years ago to have "diaper money" for his young son has been reunited with the muscle car.
The petrolhead gave up the adored classic for the love of his little boy, who has now repaid that love in full.
Doting dad Earl Guynes sold off his Marina Blue Chevrolet Camaro in 1983 after the birth of his son Jared.
The car was already going on 20-years-old back then but is now a bonified classic, worth in the region of $40,000.
Jared recalled that his dad would always joke that Earl got rid of the beloved car so that he would have enough money for his diapers.
He told Chevy Hardcore: "While my dad has always spoken lovingly and fondly of his old Camaro he sold for my ‘diaper money’ he was never sour about it.
"There wasn’t negativity about it.
" He wasn’t sad. He wasn’t angry.
"He talks about the selling of the car like it was a duty."
Good old Earl would likely insist that any loving father would do the same, but Jared decided to give something back by surprising his dad on his 65th birthday.
Having grown up to become a successful influencer and public speaker, he had the means to recover this little piece of family history.
In a video posted to his social media, the devoted son let viewers in on the moment he gave his dad the good news - the Camaro was back home.
Amazingly, Jared had tracked the car down in Oklahoma in almost exactly the same spec as when Earl sold it four decades ago.
It was then given a thorough restoration, leaving it looking and driving like it had just rolled off the production line.
Jared added: "I’ve only seen my dad cry two times in my entire life.
"Dad only smiles, laughs, and selflessly gives his best effort in the service of others.
"I saw him cry a third time, as he realized the car in the parking lot that looked just like his old one, was actually his after all."
It comes after an abandoned 1977 Chevy worth $27,000 went up on sale for less than a tenth of that.
